Yesterday, a mayoral election was held in Kanuma City, Tochigi Prefecture.
The winner was Matsui Shoichi, a former Tochigi Prefectural Assembly member supported by the Constitutional Democratic Party (Kyodo News article "LDP-Komeito defeat in Kanuma mayoral election, Secretary-General Mogi's hometown Tochigi").
Kobayashi Mikio, a former Tochigi Prefectural Assembly speaker supported by the LDP and Komeito, was defeated.
The election was affected by the politics and money scandal caused by LDP members and rising prices.
However, Kobayashi, who was supported by the ruling party, received 16,410 votes, while Matsui, who was supported by the opposition party, received 24,600 votes.
The difference was a huge 8,000 votes.
Kobayashi, who lost, received only two-thirds of the votes that Matsui received.
It can be said that the ruling party is facing a tough headwind.
Tochigi Prefecture has long been an area with a large number of LDP supporters, and one of the House of Representatives members elected from Tochigi is LDP Secretary-General Mogi Miki.
Motegi is such an influential figure in the LDP that he is being mentioned as one of the candidates for prime minister.
The LDP Secretary-General is also responsible for supporting election campaigns and managing the LDP's finances.
In the Kanuma mayoral election held yesterday, Motegi must have used his authority as Secretary-General to support Kobayashi.
Despite this, Kobayashi lost by a large margin, and some may question Secretary-General Motegi's ability and popularity.
However, the reason Kobayashi lost by a large margin may be that the LDP, which is facing headwinds due to issues of politics and money, supported him, which may have had a negative effect.
Kobayashi's election poster caused a problem in the Kanuma mayoral election (Kyodo News article "Policy flyers closely resemble those of anime movie: LDP camp in Kanuma mayoral election").
It is very similar to the poster for the movie based on the worldwide hit manga "Slam Dunk".
I compared the two posters and they are indeed very similar.
Kobayashi, wearing number 7, is point guard Miyagi Ryota, and although his number is hidden, Secretary-General Mogi is in the same position as shooting guard Mitsui Hisashi.
This may have caused ridicule and resentment.
A greedy, old, ugly, flabby politician and a high school student who devotes his youth to sports are complete opposites.
Even one politician with vested interests is annoying, but five of them together are even more annoying.
He says he will rebuild Kanuma City, but coming from a Liberal Democratic Party politician who destroyed it, that is not convincing.
It just looks like a bunch of old men gathering together to maintain their interests.
Age discrimination is also a problem, and the obsession with appearance is also a problem from the perspective of lookism.
However, it cannot be denied that female and younger voters may have been offended by this poster with all those ugly old men.
Coach Anzai of the Shohoku High School basketball team said,
"If you give up, the game is over."
This quote has inspired many who were about to give up.
But I think.
Sometimes it's important to give up.
Especially if it's for the public good.
Politicians who are lining their pockets need to give up on winning elections.
Next month is the Tokyo gubernatorial election, this year or next year there will be a House of Representatives election, and next year there will be a House of Councillors election.
Former Prime Minister Aso said, "Democracy has a cost." (Gendai article "LDP Vice President Aso: 'Omai-u': 'Democracy has a cost' nonsense... 19.34 million yen spent on high-end gourmet food using political funds" Yahoo! News).
What is the relationship between the public good and politicians enjoying high-end gourmet food using political funds?
Politicians lining their pockets cannot be recognized as a necessary expense of democracy.
No to vested interest politics.
I want to express my intentions properly by exercising my right to vote.
